Wi-Fi connection or 3G capabilities are required for the app to work and release notifications as you specify in the settings. The settings for the iPad are similar to the iPhone and iPod Touch settings. The application downloadable to the iPad is different than setting the Facebook icon on the homepage, which bookmarks the link on Safari.

Push notifications can be configured under the "Settings" icon on your iPad. Go into the "Settings," select "Facebook" from the left column of applications and tap 'Push Notifications" from the menu on the right side. Here you can set the button on or off for messages, wall posts, friend requests, friend confirmations, photo tags, events, comments, place tags, nearby friends and application requests. When you set the button to "On," you will get a push notification on your iPad screen each time that particular event happens.

Alerts

Alerts correspond to the push notifications you receive for messages and chat. You can set the alert to vibrate and play a default sound, just vibrate or play a sound or set them both to "Off" and check for messages and chat manually. There is a single sound for this feature, and it differs from the sound for all other push notifications.

Photo and Video

For iPads that are equipped with camera and video features, you can adjust the settings for these under "Photo and Video" in the right column under the Facebook app selection in the "Settings" area. High Definition video recording settings can be turned on or off. The video and camera features began with the iPad 2.

Home Screen

To avoid the Facebook application and log directly into the full site with all features, go into the Safari application. Enter "facebook.com" into the browser and log in with your account information. Tap the arrow icon to the left of the browser bar. A drop down with the options "Add Bookmark," "Add to Home Screen," "Mail Link to this Page" and "Print" will appear. Select the "Add to Home Screen." The Facebook logo will appear on your home screen as a direct bookmark to your account page. By tapping this icon in the future, it takes you directly to the full site on the Internet browser just as on your home computer.
