All three smartphones run on GSM and UMTS mobile technology. The P1i also features Bluetooth 2.0 functionality, an FM radio transmitter, mobile email and Wi-Fi capabilities. The N79 and E71 both have Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR support, A-GPS capabilities, mobile email and Wi-Fi functionality. All three phones also have the ability to connect to computers and other devices via miniature USB 2.0 ports.

Processors and Storage

Sony Ericsson equips the P1i with a 208-MHz, single-core ARM 9 processor. The N79 and E71 feature identical 369-MHz, single-core ARM 11 processors. The P1i has 160MB of built-in storage space, compared to 50MB for the N79, and 110MB for the E71. The P1i also has an integrated Memory Stick Micro memory card slot, while the N79 and E71 both have microSD memory card slots.
