Converting Movies for Your Mobile Multimedia Phone

0

The new features that are available on today's mobile multimedia smartphones are absolutely astonishing. The standards have been set in smartphone design by Blackberry, Droid, and more. Each phone has small differences between the quality of its camera to the usability and look to each touch screen. Where these phones come together is the fact that they are all able to play 3gp videos, as that file format has become the standard for 3gp video clips.

It's relatively easy to find 3gp information via the major search engines, but it can be troublesome to find the exact information you need to start watching other video file formats on your multimedia phone. Some of the file formats you might be familiar with are .avi, .mp4, and .mov. Each one may not only be too large in file size to transfer effectively, they may not even play on your phone. In such cases you will need a 3gp converter to change one format to the other.

Prior to converting, you might be thinking, "Isn't it easier to just download 3gp movies or videos instead of converting them?" The simple answer is yes, but converting a video from one file format to another is not as difficult as it sounds. The major problem with this thinking is that you might lose accessibility to older videos or clips that you have had for years. Converting them properly will allow the audio and video to sync correctly, and keep the visual and storage size of the film to an appropriate level. This is extremely important as most smartphones don't have massive amounts of physical memory to store regular sized file formats that you're more familiar with.

Since 3gp is the standard for the 3G data networks that utilize large amounts of data transfers, it only makes sense to follow the standard that has been set. If you choose to download or watch movies that are in other file formats you might risk termination of your contract due to extremely high bandwidth usage.

Movies on the Move

There are many reasons why you might consider buying one of the latest mobile phones with all the proverbial bells and whistles. For me one of the many advantages is the fact that I can copy DVDs and Music and store them on my iPhone. It's almost like having a mini Cineplex in your pocket. In the last couple of years the capacity for storage has increased at an amazing rate. I remember back in 1998 taking a trip to my local PC superstore to purchase my first laptop. The sales guy was so excited to tell me about large capacity hard drive. "If you buy this machine your storage worries are over. It has a state of the art 4.5 GB main hard drive" He said with a smile as wide as the queue for the toilets at a Rolling Stones concert.

We have come a long way since then, with the latest iPods with hard drives up to 160 GB and about the size of a 1956 gold plated cigarette case. If you are a movie buff, you will be able to load your mobile device with tens of full length movies and thousands of songs, audio books and photos etc.

There are other ways of watching movies on the move. Some like to take their laptops with them or you may have seen the portable DVD players on sale? Both are good and have advantages and disadvantages, for instance a Laptop has it's large screen but yet it's bulky and some of the older models battery life can be awful and the purpose built DVD players wont really fit in your pocket unless you are still walking around in your 1980s gear with a jacket the size of a large sack of the finest Irish potatoes!

For somebody going for a hospital stay or a long holiday, having a collection of movies on your player is a breath of fresh air and can give one something to look forward to at the end of the day. The converters you need for ripping DVDs to mobile phone devices are called DVD to 3GP, Zune converters for Zune players, DVD to PSP for Sony and for iPod I would recommend the ImToo DVD to iPod converter [http://www.magisoft.net] or Popcorn 3 by Roxio [http://www.magisoft.net].

A lot of handheld players these days offer a widescreen 16:9 option as well as standard 4:3 (Like your old square TV). The picture quality is excellent and generally is converted from your DVD to what is called MP4, which is a compression system a little like MP3 for audio. Sound is also fantastic and with a good set of earphones you may as well be in your favourite movie theatre.

1. Forget AVI (and other formats) and stick with 3GP files

And large your House phones will claim to be the ability to play files in AVI and 3GP format (with the possibility of many more codecs / formats, playable as mentioned). It is however often the case if try these files that you have downloaded, the phone seems an inexplicable error message displayed. Technical staff could lay give an account for this, but it has to do primarily with codecs, and compression. For casual users, who want to ensure only movies without is not to cut it. Therefore, I propose to mention AVI and any an other codec / format and stick to 3GP (known also as 3GPP). Digital movies that are in this format are almost no matter what cell phone from China you have running, guaranteed.

2. Find a program that will translate digital movie files to 3GP

If you have a good size collection collected from video files, or download always the latest Hollywood movie, is it possible that you have access to digital movements. This files to the see in China we will have mobile phone they convert to 3GP (it is not likely, you will have already downloaded movies in 3gp). The Internet is full of 3GP converting programs, so just a quick Google search under "storage" do.

Select (paid or free) makes you smile, but I suggest you "free" conversion software initially try to buy, which is its price value. Conversion itself is simple, with a lot of software out there is only require you tell it where the location of the movie want to convert file you and where want to go use the file.

3. The file transferred to your phone and play

This step is by far the easiest task. Connect only the mobile phone via USB with your PC, put your 3GP converted in the phone memory (internal or external MicroSD) in a folder as "Video" or "Videos" referred to, and everything should be ready. , If you have the desire, movie player open the phone, you will be following this able play the movie to see.

All in all it is not difficult, to watch movies on unbranded phone. They may not be as flashy as an iPhone, if it get to the movie, but they work in a pinch. Plus, even if they lower quality, pass it the time quite well, if boredom.
