Limewire is fast and popular file sharing freeware working on Windows, Linux and Mac OS. Through the P2P (peer-to-peer) network, you can free download various files by its category or keyword searching. No spyware, No virus!

The ripping process is easy. Just add DVD or video files to the program, choose the target formats from "iPhone 480x320', 'iPod H.264', 'MP3 audio', then start converting videos or extracting audio for iPhone.

5. Youtube to iPhone

Youtube includes .flv, .mp4 extensions. iPhone doesn't play FLV format. But Youtube videos will be encoded in H.264 supported by iPhone to improve video quality and battery life on mobile devices. They'll have 10,000 movies available by June 29th, and should complete transcoding the collection three months later or so.

If you want to convert FLV to iPhone, maybe the free online converter (vixy.net) helps.

  • iPhone External Accessory Programming Exercises

    0
iPhone External Accessory Programming ExercisesHere you will find, step-by-step, how you can write iPhone or iPod Touch code, in Objective-C 2.0, to access an external accessory. You will do so by using the ExternalAccessory Framework.

The ExternalAccessory Framework, introduced with iPhone OS 3.0, provides a set of classes so that iPhone and iPod Touch applications can find, and communicate with, external accessories.

An external accessory is a device external to the iPhone or iPod Touch. The external accessory connects to the iPhone or iPod Touch in one of two ways:

    1. Using the external connector (the same USB connector you use to charge your device).

    2. Using the Bluetooth wireless connection.

The classes that make up the ExternalAccessory framework include:

    - EAAccessoryManager. The external accessory manager class. You will use this class to access the external accessory manager.

    - EAAccessory. The external accessory class. You will use this class to access the external accessories properties.

    - EASession. The external accessory session class. You will use this class to create an input and output stream between your application and the external accessory.

As you will see, there are five major tasks that your application must do to communicate with an external accessory:

    1. Gain access to the external accessory manager.
    2. Get a list of external accessories from the external accessories manager.
    3. Check the accessory properties for each accessory in the list, to find the desired accessory.
    4. Create a session with a specific protocol with the accessory.
    5. Stream data to/from the accessory.

How can you learn to write external accessory code before having access to an actual external accessory? The answer is that the iPhone simulator includes a simulation of two external accessories, hence you can perform the exercises here even if you do not have access to a real external accessory.

    IPhone 3G Headphone Jack Problems

    0
All iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad models have the same type of headphone jack.

    Flag this photo

The iPhone 3G uses a standard audio jack for connecting headphones to the device, which allows you to listen to music, make and receive calls and use the iPhone privately. Several troubleshooting checks should be performed if you experience problems with the headphone jack on your iPhone 3G. Use these steps to pinpoint whether the issue is a hardware, software or accessory fault.

    Related Searches: Headphone Jack Type

The iPhone 3G has an integrated, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack socket on the upper left edge of the device. Any headphone equipped with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug can be used with the 3G by inserting the plug fully into the headphone jack socket until it locks in place. Failure to fully insert the plug into the socket can result in loss of stereo and degraded audio quality. The headphone socket on the iPhone 3G has no cover, so check inside for dust or lint that could cause a poor connection.

    Inline Microphone

The iPhone 3G is designed to accept headphones with an inline microphone. To achieve this, the bottom connection on the jack plug is split in two, which is automatically detected by the iPhone. If your headphones with an inline microphone use a different connection method than the 3G's standard interface, the microphone will not work. Audio problems could also be introduced if you are using an incompatible headset, even though the jack plug appears to connected correctly to the iPhone 3G.

Reboot or Reset Your iPhone 3G

A fault on the iPhone's audio jack output isn't necessarily a hardware problem. IPhone users have reported issues such as low volume, missing stereo channels and poor audio quality as a result of an operating system fault. Hold the iPhone's "Sleep/Wake" button for three seconds and slide the on-screen "Slide to power off" button to the right to shut the device down if you are experiencing audio problems from the headphone jack. Press the "Sleep/Wake" button again after one minute to turn the iPhone back on. In many cases, this will resolve the audio problem. This step should be performed before repairing or returning the iPhone.

    Test Headphones

Wear and tear can take a toll on a headphone's jack plug as the result of it being repeatedly inserted and removed from jack sockets. Rotating the plug when it is connected to the iPhone 3G with music playing can indicate if one side of the plug is worn and no longer makes a solid contact. Broken wires within the cable can also present as degraded audio. Connect the headphones to an alternative music player to test them. If the problem persists, the fault is with the headphones rather than the iPhone 3G's socket.

    iPhone 3G Home Button Replacement

    0
Print this articleAs an iPhone 3G user, you rely on your home button constantly. If the home button jams or sticks and won't work, it likely needs replacement. You have several replacement options available, from replacing the home button yourself to getting help through Apple.

    Related Searches: Self Repair

You can replace the home button yourself with a few tools and a lot of patience. Many repair shops and online sites sell different parts for the iPhone 3G. Some sites sell repair and replacement kits that also include step-by-step instructions for replacing the home button. However, keep in mind that attempting to replace the part yourself will void your iPhone's warranty.

    Warranty Repair

If you purchased your iPhone in the last year, you have a limited warranty. Apple offers a one year warranty that covers repairs and replacements for devices manufactured incorrectly or damaged during shipping. If you did not cause any damage to the home button yourself, contact Apple for information on replacing your iPhone through the warranty program.

    Apple Service Repair

Apple will repair your iPhone, and replace the broken home button, for a fee. You can send your phone to Apple directly to repair. You can also visit an authorized Apple repair store if you would rather avoid shipping delays. For specific information on the cost of repairs for your iPhone, or to locate an authorized repair store, visit the Apple Service and Repair site at selfsolve.apple.com/.

    Third-Party Repairs

You can have your iPhone repaired through a third-party repair company. Many repair stores keep replacement parts for the iPhone 3G on hand and will replace the broken home button for a fee. However, make sure that the company has a good reputation before giving them your handset and confirm that you are no longer under warranty. Using a third-party repair store not authorized by Apple will void your iPhone's warranty.

How to Disassemble an iPhone 3GS Home Button Cable

    0
Print this articleThe iPhone 3GS provides the Home button to provide users with a way to easily access the phone's main menu. If your Home button responds erratically when you press it, or stops responding completely, the culprit is often a bad cable. You can disassemble the Home button assembly and disconnect the cable to attempt to repair or replace it. However, doing so will negate the warranty and you will be responsible for paying the costs of any damage you cause.

iPhone Speech Synthesis Use in Apps

    0
Since the release of iOS 5, speech synthesis has become a common aspect of iPhone usage.

    Flag this photo

Though firmware for the iPhone 3GS -- which introduced iOS Voice Control -- included a private voice synthesis framework called VoiceServices, Apple didn't release a version of iOS that made extensive use of voice synthesis until the unveiling of iOS 5 and iPhone 4S. Examples of speech synthesis for iOS include Apple's Siri, a virtual assistant app, and a handful of independently developed tools offering speech recognition and synthesis capabilities.

    Related Searches: Siri

Siri, a feature integrated with the built-in apps in iOS 5, is a serious overhaul of the more limited Voice Control feature found in some pre-fifth generation iPhones. Siri uses speech synthesis in combination with speech recognition. Users can ask Siri to create lists or items in the Reminds app; play specific genres, artists or songs on the iPod; search through or compose emails, and text messages; check the weather by location and by date; or look for directions to a specific location using the Maps app. Siri responds to all queries with a multimedia message displayed in text and spoken aloud using speech synthesis. The initial synthesized reply asks the user to verify that Siri has recognized the correct task to perform. Upon receiving the go-ahead from the user, Siri responds again and performs the task.

    ESpeak

ESpeak is an open-source speech synthesizer created for Windows and Linux. It supports 43 languages. Though eSpeak has not been ported to iOS officially, Google has notably integrated aspects of it into their Google Voice and Google Translate apps for the iPhone and iPad. In Google Translate, for example, eSpeak powers the automated synthesis when users request playback of translations into certain languages.

    OpenEars

OpenEars is an independently developed, open-source text-to-speech and speech-recognition library for the English language, first released in late 2011. Developers looking to integrate Siri-inspired features into their iOS apps before Apple offers open access to their speech synthesis API will need to download the open-source Pocketsphinx and Flite libraries in addition to OpenEars itself. As of the publication of this article, no OpenEars powered apps had reached the iOS App store.

    Acapela TTS

Acapela TTS is an independently developed, commercial text-to-speech engine for iOS. Unlike OpenEars, Acapela TTS does not support speech recognition. Acapela TTS includes speech synthesis tools for 25 languages in addition to English, versions are available for competing mobile operating systems including Android and Windows Mobile. Apps for iPhone and iPad that use the Acapela API include Assistive Chat, an augmentative communication device for people with disabilities, the iSpeak series of talking foreign-language dictionaries and the RSS Speaker series of screen-reader apps.

Problems With the NFL Live Football App for the iPhone

    0
Some NFL apps allow you to watch football games live on your iPhone.

    Flag this photo

There are several iPhone apps that provide NFL news, game content and other NFL information such as player status updates and transactions. NFL livesports24 is one option, as well as the NFL Mobile app. Both are available to download from iTunes or the App Store and install on your iPhone. However, as with many other apps, these apps aren't perfect and do have a few problems for some users.

    Related Searches: Play by Play

The NFL livesports24 iPhone app sometimes has problems with the play-by-play feature. This feature is supposed to list each play of a game in chronological order, including the outcome of the play. However, some users have reported that the feature lists plays out of chronological order, so you might read about a touchdown before reading about the plays that set up the score. This is a major problem for people following the game closely via the app.

    Apps Crashing

Another issue with the NFL livesports24 iPhone app and other NFL apps is a problem with the app crashing. When an app crashes, it is similar to a computer crashing. The app freezes for a few seconds or more before closing entirely. This happens for a number of reasons, including too many other tasks running on your iPhone or temporarily losing reception. Typically, you can relaunch the app after it crashes and it will work well, but if the app crashes when you are tracking a game closely, it can be very frustrating.

    Availability

When the iPhone was originally introduced, it was available exclusively on the AT&T network. As of late 2011, Verizon also offers the iPhone. The NFL Mobile app is generally well reviewed, but it only works on the Verizon network, because the app was developed by Verizon. This is a problem for iPhone users on AT&T or other networks who want to use the app, but can't since they have a service contract with a provider other than Verizon.

    Older Versions

Having an older version of any NFL Live app can also cause problems. In many cases, app developers release updated versions of apps to fix various bugs or issues. If you do not update your app to the latest version, then you won't receive the benefit of those fixes. For example, older versions of the NFL livesports24 app had a problem with the app closing right after it was launched on a phone, but version 2.0.1 resolved that issue according to the release notes. Check your apps occasionally to ensure you have the latest versions of each app.

    Apple Original iPhone Screen Repair

    0
Print this articleLike most modern phones, the Apple iPhone is made up of a number of modular components, so that when something goes wrong the device can be repaired instead of having to be replaced. Repairing the screen is a fairly in-depth process, requiring that you take the device completely apart, and also requires that you replace a few parts that may be working perfectly fine. The task is neither easy nor foolproof, and it requires some special tools.

Related Searches: 1st Gen Display Assembly

Whether your iPhone's LCD is cracked, the glass digitizer is scratched or the "Home" button isn't working, you have to replace them all as they are fused together into a single component called the display assembly. The display assembly consists of the LCD, digitizer, "Home" button, mic, earpiece and a few other components and small circuit boards. The display assembly sits at the bottom of the device from a repair perspective, so you will first have to remove everything else from above the display in order to replace the defective assembly.

    Repair Tools

Before you can take your 1st generation iPhone apart, you'll need to have the right tools. You need a #00 Phillips screwdriver, which is a small version of a standard Phillips screwdriver, to remove the various screws holding the iPhone together. You also need some kind of pry tool to force various housings and connectors apart, along with a dental pick to force the rear panel off of the device. Finally, since the iPhone doesn't have an easily removable SIM card, you need a SIM card ejector tool, although you can also use a paperclip for this purpose.

    Repair Procedure

Repairing your original iPhone first requires that you remove the SIM card and pry off the plastic cover at the bottom of the device. Remove the screws at the bottom of the device, then use your pick to pry off the back cover. Remove the three screws in the control board, then pry up the white antenna cables, camera, battery and control board. Note that there are connectors on the underside of the control board that you have to disconnect in order to completely remove the board, and that the battery is permanently connected to the board. Remove the ten screws around the perimeter of the device, then lift the display assembly away from the front bezel.

    Repair Warnings

The iPhone was not designed to be taken apart by users, and doing so could irreparably damage the device. Be sure to ground yourself by touching something metal before you open the device, and don't perform the repair in a high static environment. The rear case is extremely difficult to remove and will often leave you with a bent housing, making the device difficult to put back together. If your 1st generation is, for some reason, still under warranty, opening it in this manner will void that warranty.
