My BlackBerry Curve Has Volume Problems

0
Print this articleVolume problems on your BlackBerry Curve may be attributed to an issue with your phone's software. If you have checked your settings and the problems persist, you have a few available options for troubleshooting the problem. Persistent problems may require technical assistance from your service provider.

Related Searches: Hard Reset

Hard reset your BlackBerry Curve if it has volume problems. When you hard reset the phone, it does not affect the phone's settings or data, but can help it to reload all of its necessary functions. Hard reset the Curve by pulling the battery while it is on. Wait for 30 to 45 seconds and replace the battery in your phone. Check the phone's volume to determine if the problem was resolved.

Restore Phone

Continued volume problems on the Curve smartphone may call for a complete restoration. When you restore the phone, a previously backed up version of the phone is loaded onto the phone. Any data that has not been backed up will be lost. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Software application on your computer. Connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable. Click “Device” in the top menu, and click “Back Up.” The onscreen prompts will guide you through restoring your phone.

Reload Software

If the Curve's volume problems persist, completely wiping your phone and reloading its software can potentially help. Volume problems that result from an issue within the software are usually resolved when the phone is wiped clean and the software is reloaded. Connect the Curve to your computer and open BlackBerry Desktop Software. Click “Device” in the application's menu, and then click “Update.” Select the version of software you want to install and follow the onscreen prompts.

Replacement Phone

Hardware issues with your BlackBerry Curve that are causing volume problems may not be easily resolved. In most cases, your service provider may opt to replace your phone. If the Curve is covered by mobile insurance, the replacement is usually covered. If the phone's volume problems are the result of misuse, your service provider may require you to pay a deductible. Contact your service provider for additional help with getting a replacement phone.

IPhone 3G Headphone Jack Problems

0
All iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad models have the same type of headphone jack.

Flag this photo

The iPhone 3G uses a standard audio jack for connecting headphones to the device, which allows you to listen to music, make and receive calls and use the iPhone privately. Several troubleshooting checks should be performed if you experience problems with the headphone jack on your iPhone 3G. Use these steps to pinpoint whether the issue is a hardware, software or accessory fault.

Related Searches: Headphone Jack Type

The iPhone 3G has an integrated, 3.5 mm stereo audio jack socket on the upper left edge of the device. Any headphone equipped with a 3.5 mm stereo jack plug can be used with the 3G by inserting the plug fully into the headphone jack socket until it locks in place. Failure to fully insert the plug into the socket can result in loss of stereo and degraded audio quality. The headphone socket on the iPhone 3G has no cover, so check inside for dust or lint that could cause a poor connection.

Inline Microphone

The iPhone 3G is designed to accept headphones with an inline microphone. To achieve this, the bottom connection on the jack plug is split in two, which is automatically detected by the iPhone. If your headphones with an inline microphone use a different connection method than the 3G's standard interface, the microphone will not work. Audio problems could also be introduced if you are using an incompatible headset, even though the jack plug appears to connected correctly to the iPhone 3G.

Reboot or Reset Your iPhone 3G

A fault on the iPhone's audio jack output isn't necessarily a hardware problem. IPhone users have reported issues such as low volume, missing stereo channels and poor audio quality as a result of an operating system fault. Hold the iPhone's "Sleep/Wake" button for three seconds and slide the on-screen "Slide to power off" button to the right to shut the device down if you are experiencing audio problems from the headphone jack. Press the "Sleep/Wake" button again after one minute to turn the iPhone back on. In many cases, this will resolve the audio problem. This step should be performed before repairing or returning the iPhone.

Test Headphones

Wear and tear can take a toll on a headphone's jack plug as the result of it being repeatedly inserted and removed from jack sockets. Rotating the plug when it is connected to the iPhone 3G with music playing can indicate if one side of the plug is worn and no longer makes a solid contact. Broken wires within the cable can also present as degraded audio. Connect the headphones to an alternative music player to test them. If the problem persists, the fault is with the headphones rather than the iPhone 3G's socket.

Problems With the NFL Live Football App for the iPhone

0
Some NFL apps allow you to watch football games live on your iPhone.

Flag this photo

There are several iPhone apps that provide NFL news, game content and other NFL information such as player status updates and transactions. NFL livesports24 is one option, as well as the NFL Mobile app. Both are available to download from iTunes or the App Store and install on your iPhone. However, as with many other apps, these apps aren't perfect and do have a few problems for some users.

Related Searches: Play by Play

The NFL livesports24 iPhone app sometimes has problems with the play-by-play feature. This feature is supposed to list each play of a game in chronological order, including the outcome of the play. However, some users have reported that the feature lists plays out of chronological order, so you might read about a touchdown before reading about the plays that set up the score. This is a major problem for people following the game closely via the app.

Apps Crashing

Another issue with the NFL livesports24 iPhone app and other NFL apps is a problem with the app crashing. When an app crashes, it is similar to a computer crashing. The app freezes for a few seconds or more before closing entirely. This happens for a number of reasons, including too many other tasks running on your iPhone or temporarily losing reception. Typically, you can relaunch the app after it crashes and it will work well, but if the app crashes when you are tracking a game closely, it can be very frustrating.

Availability

When the iPhone was originally introduced, it was available exclusively on the AT&T network. As of late 2011, Verizon also offers the iPhone. The NFL Mobile app is generally well reviewed, but it only works on the Verizon network, because the app was developed by Verizon. This is a problem for iPhone users on AT&T or other networks who want to use the app, but can't since they have a service contract with a provider other than Verizon.

Older Versions

Having an older version of any NFL Live app can also cause problems. In many cases, app developers release updated versions of apps to fix various bugs or issues. If you do not update your app to the latest version, then you won't receive the benefit of those fixes. For example, older versions of the NFL livesports24 app had a problem with the app closing right after it was launched on a phone, but version 2.0.1 resolved that issue according to the release notes. Check your apps occasionally to ensure you have the latest versions of each app.

Problems With Lexar 60X SD Cards

0
Print this articleSecure Digital cards, better known as SD cards, are manufactured by a variety of companies, including Lexar, and are built to the standards established by the SD Association, an internal organization that is comprised of more than 1,000 electronics-related companies. Lexar 60x SD cards, like all SD cards, can experience problems that may be related to the card or the device in which it is installed.

Related Searches: Card Problems

SD cards come in several types, sizes and with different capacities. When an SD card reaches or nears its capacity, the card will fail to take more data and may become unresponsive. Checking the card for unwanted or unused files, and deleting them, will free space on the card and can lead to the card working properly again. SD cards, including Lexar 60x SD cards, accept data in blocks instead of in byte-by-byte chunks like how data is written to a computer hard drive. This method of saving data can also lead to card malfunctions, especially if the card is written to frequently or over a long period of time.

Device Problems

Occasionally the part of the computing device that connects to a Lexar 60x SD card can malfunction, causing the card to experience problems when attempting to access the computer’s processor. This problem is often identified by an error prompt that appears on the device. This situation is best dealt with by having the device looked at by a service expert and may result in a pricey repair bill or needing to replace the device.

Speed

The Lexar 60x line of SD cards is classified as high-speed and is capable of writing data at up to 9 megabytes per second, a feature that can lead to eventual card malfunction. As data is transferred to the card at high rates of speed, the card gradually loses its ability to accept data at its maximum rate, similar to how a battery loses its capacity limitations with each recharge. Although the Lexar 60x SD cards are capable of receiving data at these transfer rates, it doesn’t mean the computing device is capable of writing the data at that rate.

Considerations

Because of their high-speed capabilities, Lexar 60x SD cards are designed for use in devices that are capable of writing data at high rates of speed, such as digital camcorders. Using a Lexar 60x SD card in a mobile phone or video game console is more likely to lead to the card malfunctioning or not meeting your needs. While Lexar 60x SD cards are designed to be durable pieces of equipment, they are still susceptible to damage and should be handled with care.

The PlayStation 3 by Sony is a video game system that includes Blu-ray disc playback, Internet connectivity and online gaming. While the PS3 claims that it "only does everything," it is not without its faults and you may experience errors when using the console. A shaking or resizing screen can be the cause of your PS3 attempting to automatically adjust the display settings.

If your cable shows any signs of fraying, nicks or cuts, it needs to be replaced with a new cable. Sony recommends using a high-speed HDMI connection to a HDTV and the component video connection for standard CRT TVs.

Video Settings

The PS3 can be display in several different video outputs. The PS3 will attempt to automatically detect the TV that it is connected to and select the most appropriate video output settings. To adjust the video settings manually, navigate to the "Settings" menu on the Xross Media Bar (XMB). Select "Display Settings" and then "Video Output Settings." Choose the type of connection that you are using and whether or not your display is a 4:3 or 16:9 resolution. Typically, standard CRT TVs will use the 4:3 setting and HDTVs will use the 16:9 resolution.

Reset To Default

Setting the PS3 to its default settings can alleviate issues with the PS3 trying to automatically resize the display output. To reset the PS3 to its default settings, navigate to the "Settings" menu on the XMB and select the "System Settings" option. Choose the "Restore Default Settings" option and press the "X" button on the controller to confirm your choice to restore the system to factory defaults.

Screen Saver

The screen saver can cause the display settings on your PS3 to change momentarily as the screensaver turns on. The screensaver can be turned off or set to activate after a certain amount of time on the XMB. Navigate to the "Display Settings" option and select the "Screensaver" option. You have the choice of the screen saver turning on after 5, 10, 20 or 30 minutes if you elect to turn the screen saver on.

Problems With Bose Headphones

0
Bose headphones let you enjoy music privately.

Flag this photo

Bose headphones earn excellent reviews from websites and magazines such as CNET and PCMag, but that does not make them immune to occasional problems. When you use your Bose nose-canceling or in-ear headphones, you may notice strange sounds, poor-quality sound or other issues. Often, you can fix most of these problems yourself.

Related Searches: Battery Problems

Some Bose headphones require a special battery, including the Bose QuietComfort 3 acoustic noise-canceling headphones. The included battery fits inside the left ear cup; when you turn the headphones on, it activates noise reduction. If you turn on the headphones but hear no noise reduction, charge the battery. Low battery power also causes low-quality noise reduction or a crackling noise. If the charger indicator light flashes, remove the battery from the headphones for 10 seconds and then replace it. You may need to get a new battery from Bose if your battery does not hold a charge.

Sound Problems

If you hear a low rumbling noise when you wear noise-canceling headphones, the ear cups may not fit correctly on your ears. Adjust the ear cups so they fit snugly over each ear. If you still hear rumbling, check for dust or other debris inside the ear cups. If you hear too much bass with in-ear headphones, check your music player or other audio device for a bass boost feature. If it is on, turn it off. Signal-altering features on your audio device may also cause sound quality problems. Always connect your headphones to your audio device's headphone jack. Do not connect them to the "line out" jack. You cannot hear any sound through the "line out" jack.

Other Earcup and Eartip Problems

Bose noise-canceling headphones feature detachable ear cup cushions. If you remove one, or if it falls off, position the detached cushion over the ear cup. Align the cushion's two holes with the ear cup's two posts, and then push the two pieces together. Press around the edge of the cushion to snap it in place.

Bose in-ear headphones come with three pairs of ear tips. If an ear tip falls off, or if you need to replace it, line up the triangle on the ear tip with the triangle on the plastic part of the headphone. Press down to insert and secure the ear tip.

Bluetooth Headset Problems

If you have trouble pairing your Bose Bluetooth headset and your cellphone, ensure that your phone's Bluetooth function is turned on. While wearing the Bluetooth headset, stand within 33 feet of the phone. Press the "Call" button on the headset to put it in discoverable mode. If you experience poor call sound quality, move away from potential interference, such as a microwave, wireless router or cordless phone. You may also experience poor sound if you have too many Bluetooth applications running on the phone. If you need to reset the headset completely, hold down the "Volume" and "Call" buttons together for five seconds.

Problems With Resetting the iPad

0
IPads freeze for a wide range of reasons.

Flag this photo

A frozen iPad can be indicative of a problem with your device, but more often it is the result of too many apps running at once or an application glitch. Resetting your iPad will shut it down and reboot the hard drive. If the problem is too severe, a reset may not work, in which case restore is your only remaining option.

Related Searches: Reset Process

Resetting an iPad is akin to doing a forced shut down on a regular computer. When you reset the iPad, you are forcing it to turn off immediately without completing the regular safe shut down procedure. Resetting is accomplished by pressing the "Sleep/Wake" button at the top of the device while also holding down the "Home" button. When both are held down for about 10 seconds, the iPad should close down.

Issues With Reset

Most frozen iPads can be resolved by performing a reset. In some cases, however, the frozen iPad application or process will not allow the device to reset. If your iPad is still powered on and frozen after a reset, or if it will not turn back on after a reset, the device needs to be restored using iTunes on a computer.

iPad Restore

Restoring your iPad will return it to factory settings. Any apps that you have added to the device will need to be downloaded again, but you are never asked to pay for any application twice from the same Apple ID, so you can download them again for free. Restore your iPad by connecting it to your computer and opening iTunes. When the device shows up in the iTunes source list, click it and then choose "Restore."

Updated iOS

Keeping your iPad up to date with the latest iOS will reduce the likelihood of resetting problems. IOS updates are always free, and often include patches for known glitches. If you have iOS 5 on your iPad, updates to the iPad iOS can be made wirelessly right from your device by going to the "Settings" menu. Likewise, check the App Store often for updates to your specific applications, which often include fixes to reported problems.

Problems With a PS3 Disc That Is Not Spinning

0
Hardware problems may keep your console from playing discs.

Flag this photo

A common hardware problem with Sony PlayStation 3 is for the console to accept a disc (DVD, Blu-ray or game disc) but not spin it or otherwise recognize it, leaving you unable to either watch video or play disc-based games. If this happens with more than one disc and you can verify that the discs will play fine on other devices, this indicates a problem with either the PS3 motor or the laser that reads the disc.

Related Searches: Troubleshooting

A PlayStation 3 that accepts discs but does not spin or read them may have a problem with either the motor or the laser. If the issue is with the motor, you may hear the motor attempt to engage the disc once it has been inserted or you may not hear anything at all. This may be caused by either a motor failure or by a foreign object blocking the motor. If the issue is with the laser, the disc may load but the laser does not detect a disc and then does not spin the motor. This may be caused by an excessively dirty laser lens or a laser that has otherwise burned out.

Warranty

Sony offers a one-year, limited warranty on new PlayStation 3 consoles, and some electronics stores may also offer an extended warranty, available at time of purchase. If your PlayStation 3 is less than a year old, or your console is more than a year old but covered under the extended store warranty, contact the store where you purchased your console. You may be able to get a replacement console under warranty.

Professional Repair

Sony offers a repair service through its website for consoles that are still covered under warranty, as well as consoles that are no longer covered. At date of publication, the cost is $50 for shipping and the initial diagnostic; once the problem is diagnosed, there is an additional fee for parts and labor. Repair costs can vary greatly.

Self-Repair

You may also choose to fix your PlayStation 3 console yourself, though this will void the manufacturer's warranty and should only be attempted if your console is no longer covered under warranty and you are comfortable working with specialized electronic hardware. There are various PlayStation 3 repair forums and YouTube videos available to help you troubleshoot and replace any parts that may be causing the non-spinning disc issue.

Considerations

Before replacing your PlayStation 3 under warranty or attempting a repair, back up your saved data on your PlayStation 3 by either exporting your data to a USB drive or uploading your data to the PlayStation Network cloud server. If you do not save your backup data, you will lose all of your saved games and profile settings.
