So you have a BlackBerry Pearl smartphone, but you're now noticing that it doesn't surf the Internet as quickly as you think it should. Some of the problem is in the fact that you're using a device with a relatively small amount of bandwidth, which might never match the speed of a personal computer. That said, you do have options for getting your device to run faster.

Update your operating system. Since newer versions of the BlackBerry software can greatly increase the bandwidth for your modem, check with your mobile phone provider on a regular basis to make sure you're running the latest version.

2

Turn off JavaScript. BlackBerry Geeks recommends turning off JavaScript until you need it. Navigate to your browser window and then press the menu or "BlackBerry" key. Then press "Options," "Browser Configuration," then click inside the "Prompt to enable JavaScript" box to leave a check mark in the box. Then reopen the menu key and press "Save Options."

Limit the number of images that have to load for you to browse. Navigate to your browser window and press the menu or "BlackBerry" key. Press "Options," then "Browser Configuration." Look for the "Show Images" heading and click in the box that shows the various options. Select "No" and be sure to save your changes by pressing the "Save Options" selection from the menu key.

4

Free up some memory on your device. A lack of system memory can cause your BlackBerry Pearl to run slow. Delete email messages, unused applications, photos and other data.
