If the LED isn't blinking when you get a text message, and the LED is still working, it's probably because you have the device set up to not give a visual indicator for incoming messages.

Your BlackBerry Storm's sound profiles determine how the device reacts in all sorts of situations. Each sound profile contains a list of possible events, like incoming phone calls, incoming texts, and even incoming instant messages, and then assigns specific ring tones, vibrate rules and LED notification to those events. The Storm comes with a handful of default profiles like "Normal," "Loud," "Vibrate Only" and "All Alerts Off," but you can adjust the settings of each of these profiles to your liking, or can create your own profile.

Editing a Profile

To access your profiles, so you can check how they handle your LED notification, select the speaker icon on the Storm's main screen, which will open the "Select a Sound Profile" menu. Scroll to the bottom of the menu and choose "Edit Profiles," then select your desired profile from the list. Choose the "Messages" option and then "SMS." Finally, select the option next to "LED" and change it to "On." Press the "Menu" button and choose "Save" to save your changes.

Contact Alerts

Even if your current sound profile has the LED set to go off when you get a text message, if you have a contact alert set up for the person sending you the test, the light may still not go off. Contact alerts are simply a special sound profile for a single contact, which will override that device's overall sound profile (except for the "All Alerts Off" profile). To check your contact alerts, choose "Set Contact Alerts" from the bottom of the "Select a Sound Profile" menu, then choose the contact and adjust the settings as needed.

Additional Concerns

If the LED indicator still does not work after you have turned the indicator on within the sound profile, there may be a deeper issue either with the device's software or with the actual LED. Plug your BlackBerry Storm into its charger and observe the LED. If it doesn't flash, there may be a hardware issue with the LED and your BlackBerry will need to be replaced. If the LED works when you plug the device into the charger, but still will never flash when you get a text, your next option is to wipe the device and return it to its factory default settings. You can wipe the device from the "Security" area of the "Options" menu, but be aware that this will erase all of your information. If the security wipe doesn't fix the issue, then your only remaining recourse is to replace the device.
