Why Does Blackberry Storm Go Automatically to Voice Mail?

The underlying issue could be one of several things, from a setting that turns off the ringer to an issue in the device's software.

If your BlackBerry Storm still has the original 4.7 version of the BlackBerry operating system, a small setting in your sound profile could be automatically rejecting your calls. The "Do Not Disturb" setting, when activated, sends a caller to your voice mail without giving you any notice at all, save for a small blinking LED. To check this setting, go into your sound profiles. Edit the "Phone" setting for the current profile and scroll to the bottom of the screen. If "Do Not Disturb" is set to "Yes," this is the reason your Storm is sending calls straight to voice mail. If your Storm has been upgraded to a software version after 4.7, this feature is no longer available, so it is not causing your issue.

Signal Issues

When the cellular network loses its connection to your BlackBerry Storm, any incoming calls are directed straight to voice mail. Even if your Storm is powered on, if it doesn't have any signal strength wherever you are, all your calls are sent to voice mail. Leave your phone out and ensure that you have more than one bar of service and then make a test call to see if you are taken straight to voice mail. If the call goes through, your problem may just be that the device has no signal wherever you normally keep it. Keep it in a new location, away from your body and outside of a container.

Call Forwarding

Even if you have your profiles set up correctly, your Storm could still be set up to automatically forward all your calls to voice mail. Go into the "Options" menu from within the Phone application and then choose "Call Forwarding." If the "Forward All Calls" setting is set to your voice mail number, this is your problem. Change the setting to "Do Not Forward."

Software Glitch

Sometimes a minor glitch in the software that runs the BlackBerry Storm can cause calls to go to voice mail. You can correct any simple software issues by removing the battery. Wait a few seconds and then put it back. If the issue persists through this kind of reset, perform a security wipe, which erases all your information and returns the Storm to factory default settings. Back up your data first using the BlackBerry Desktop Software on your PC. Then, choose the "Security Wipe" option from within the Security Options menu.
